Formation and Radiation Acceleration of Pair Plasmoids Near Galactic Black Holes
نویسنده
چکیده
We study quantitatively the formation and radiation acceleration of electronpositron pair plasmoids produced by photon-photon collisions near Galactic black holes (GBHs). The terminal ejecta velocity is found to be completely determined by the total disk luminosity, proton loading factor and disk size, with no dependence on the initial velocity. We discuss potential applications to the recently discovered Galactic superluminal sources GRS1915, GROJ1655 and possibly other GBHs. Subject headings: acceleration of particles – accretion disks – gamma rays: observations

The Physics of Gamma-ray Sources
Observations of gamma-rays from objects and processes in the universe have become feasible during the past three decades, through advanced skills from high-energy laboratory physics and from space technology. These allow us to explore violent processes in the universe, which often escape detection at lower-energy radiation. Typical source processes are the collisions of energetic particles in c...
متن کاملBlack Holes in Active Galactic Nuclei
The most viable scenario for modelling of active galactic nuclei includes a supermassive black hole (with the mass of 106−109 Solar masses) accreting the galaxian matter from its vicinity. The release of the gravitational energy of the infalling matter is ultimately responsible for the large radiative output of those objects, and in some cases, for formation and acceleration of powerful relativ...
متن کاملActive Galactic Nuclei as High-Energy Neutrino Sources
Active galactic nuclei (AGN), which are powered by accretion of mass onto supermassive black holes (SMBHs) at the center of their host galaxies and/or the rotational energy of SMBHs, are the most luminous persistent sources of electromagnetic radiation in the Universe. They have also been of interest as powerful high-energy cosmic-ray accelerators (CRs), including ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (...
متن کاملA Unified Model of Active Galactic Nuclei, Black Hole X-Ray Sources and Gamma-Ray Bursts
I consider models of active galactic nuclei, stellar-mass accreting black holes and microquasars based on a previously developed (Katz (1997)) model of gamma-ray bursts. When energy fluxes exceed a critical value ∼ 10 erg/cms, as in GRB, a black-body equilibrium pair plasma forms. At the lower fluxes found in AGN, BHXS and microquasars accretion power electrodynamically accelerates a small numb...
متن کاملScaling of Black Hole Accretion Discs from Gamma-Ray Bursts and Black Hole X-Ray Binaries to Active Galactic Nuclei
I consider how physical processes scale over eight orders of magnitude in black hole mass, from stellar masses in gamma-ray bursts (GRB) and black-hole X-ray binaries (BHXRB) to supermassive active galactic nuclei (AGN). Accretion rates onto stellar mass black holes range over more than sixteen orders of magnitude, from the lower luminosity BHXRB to GRB. These enormous parameter ranges correspo...
